Contestants Information

1. Entry fees
No entry fees shall be refunded nor transferred, regardless of any reasons (e.g. class suspension ordered by the Government of the HKSAR, breach of Rules and Regulations, absence from Competitions due to sickness / personal affairs / school functions, failed to provide the music scores required, etc.).

2. Competition time slots
The Organization shall determine the class schedule and dates. Contestants who do not appear in the assigned order at the scheduled time will be deemed “not in assigned order”; they will receive comments only and will not be awarded marks or certificates.

3. Time of Arrival to Competition Venues
Contestants are advised to arrive at the Competition venue 10 minutes before their scheduled performance time to register for registration and avoid missing their performance order or important announcements. Once the Competition has commenced, the Adjudicator(s) or Organization reserve the right to refuse entry to the venue to any person, including Contestants.

4. Documents Required for Competition
When attending the Competition, Contestants must bring with them the following documents:
a. the Admission Form, AND
b.(i) a photocopy of the Birth Certificate / Hong Kong ID card OR
   (ii) the student card / handbook (with photo)
c. a photocopy of the Music Score (for adjudication use only, will not be returned)

5. The Organization reserves the right not to award all or part of any prizes or scholarships in a class if Contestants do not perform to a sufficiently standard.

6. Before the announcement of results, audience members, including Contestants, teachers, and parents, are requested not to approach the Adjudicator(s). All inquiries must be directed to the on-site Competition staff. Violations may result in disqualification or removal from the venue.

7. Except for piano classes, All Contestants must bring along their own musical instruments for the Competition(s).

8. Music Scores for Competition
Contestants and their accompanists are responsible for ensuring that the music scores used in the Competition are copyrighted editions. Failure to present the required copyrighted edition at the Competition may result in disqualification.

9. Awards
The Organization reserves the right not to award part or any prizes / scholarship of each Class if Contestant(s) do not perform up to a sufficiently high standard at the Competition.

10. Rules of Competition Venues
a. Venues will open no earlier than 10 minutes before the start of each session and may be opened later, depending on the actual situation.
b. Unauthorized use or rearrangement of instruments, equipment, or facilities is prohibited.
c. Anyone, including Contestants, who causes undue disturbance in the Competition venue may be asked to leave and may be disqualified.
d. The use of mobile phones and other electronic devices is prohibited. Audio or video recording and photography, including the recording of Adjudicator(s)’ comments and the announcement of results, are not permitted during the Competition. Anyone who violates this rule may be asked to leave the venue.
e. Attendees are responsible for their own personal belongings. The Organization accepts no responsibility for any loss.
f. Due to limited seating capacity and fire safety regulations, each Contestant and up to one accompanying teacher or parent will be admitted only to the session in which the contestant is scheduled to perform. Subject to venue requirements and the Adjudicator(s)’ instructions, staff are authorized to manage seating and admission arrangements. Entry is not guaranteed for Contestants not performing in the current time slot.
g. Audiences must follow the seating arrangements and instructions issued by the Organization. Anyone, including Contestants, who fails to comply may be asked to leave and may be disqualified.
h. Children under the age of three who are not Contestants will not be admitted to any venue.
i. Parking facilities will not be provided by the Organization.

11. Judging Criteria
Adjudication will be based on the overall performance of the Contestants, including:
♦ Technique – tone colour and quality, notes accuracy, rhythm accuracy, ease of play, fluency, control, etc.
♦ Style and interpretation – stylistic understanding, character, use of tempo, presentation with imagination, conviction, etc.
♦ Musicianship – dynamics, phrasing, articulation, musical sense, performance flair, effective communication, etc.
♦ Presentation – appropriate performance dress, stagecraft, etc.
The decision of the Adjudicator(s) on all artistic matters shall be final.

12. Other Important Notes
a. The Adjudicator(s)’and Organization’s decision on all artistic matters shall be final. The Organization’s decision on matters relating to the interpretation of the Rules and Regulations, administration, and the Competition shall also be final.
b. For the safety and health of all attendees, individuals with infectious diseases should not attend any Competition or related activities. Individuals who are unwell shall wear a mask before entering the Competition venue.
c. If class suspension is announced by the HKSAR Government, the Competition or event will be rearranged accordingly, and the latest updates will be announced on the Organization’s website. If the Competition or event must be temporarily cancelled and rescheduled, Contestants must comply with the revised arrangements, and entry fees will not be refunded nor transferred.
d. Any additional administrative arrangements arising from special requests, if approved, will be subject to a handling fee.
